VIP Talent Connect Maxim Boadie

“Bodie” real name Matt Bodenheimer came to our office on May 18, 2009. Bodie is from Virginia. He attended his first VIP Talent Connect event July 2009 where he met Ryan Colby. This is what Bodie wrote in his paragraph on why he wants to get in the industry one year ago:

“Though my own personal journey, I’ve learned that entertainment industry is anything but predictable. There is no given or specific path on how to make or break your career. Although I have learned many things from my experiences, I feel that I have only gotten my feet wet in terms of my goals and capabilities for the future. This year, I want to get my food in the door and take my acting career to the next level. I see myself no constricting my acting opportunities solely on the DC area. I hope to be working on more professional projects and be able to get my name out. I want to find more work, go on more auditions, work in DC, New York, and Philadelphia because I know the harder I work, it is only a matter of time before I can get my career rolling. In one year, I see myself surrounded by people who believe in my abilities and are will to help me find the opportunities and I in return am willing to put the effort to try my hardest to put myself out there and not miss out on opportunities. If there is one think I have learned, it is that opportunities don’t come to you, you have to go out and find them.” Congratulations “Matt” we always knew with the right connections you had what it takes to be a star! PLEASE BE CAREFUL: New Jersey Man MySpace Sexual Predator

Posted on January 10th, 2010 by admin

NBCNewYork.com

43-year-old Adonis Giron is in jail tonight after pleading guilty to having sex with a 12 year old girl he met online.

On his MySpace page Giron says he is 26 years old and claims he pulls in between 150 thousand and 250 thousand dollars a year as a manager for MTV music television.

Police in Hudson County, New Jersey say Giron used the bogus page to entice young girls who he would then promise fame and fortune in exchange for sex.

Police say his encounter with the 12 year old took place in October 2008 in a motel in North Bergen, New Jersey and that he also molested two other girls, both 13 years old.

The Hudson County Prosecutor calls Giron a clear example of the type of danger parents need to be aware is lurking on the internet.

Giron is being held on 300 thousand dollars bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced in February and could get up to 10 years in prison.

TAGVIP EDITOR’S NOTE

“I never understood the logic of parents who say I can go online and my kid will be discovered. Name one person who has done it that way vs how many examples you see in the news like the above link.”

“Would you let your kid cross a busy expressway?”

Models- Tips for Posing… A Quick View!

Posted on January 5th, 2010 by admin

VIP Talent Connect participants always run the possibility of getting a test shoot on location at the events. Should this happen to you; Here are some general tips on posing for the camera. During a photo shoot, the photographer will usually direct the model for any specific poses that the photographer is trying to capture, but it helps if the model knows what to do without a lot of direction.

Some General Posing Tips:

Don’t hold your breath for a pose. The concentration usually shows in the picture.
Hold in your stomach to give a more toned appearance to the abdomen (even if you are in great shape). Picture 8
Most people, including models, do not have very good posture. Unless you’re going for a casual look, keep your back straight and your shoulders up.

Don’t keep both arms entirely straight unless directed to do so for a specific pose. Bend one or both arms, even if only a little, to make the pose look less artificial. Likewise, don’t keep both legs entirely straight.

Don’t always look straight at the camera. Instead, use a variety of head and eye positions: Try turning your head, tilting your neck to one side or the other, or looking off to the side for some poses.

Don’t use a big smile for every pose. Sometimes try a small smile, a pout, a laugh, a scowl, or even a frown, to give some variety to your facial expressions.

Listen to what the photographer tells you. He can see you through the camera. You can’t.
Additional Posing Tips for Plus-Size Models:

Rest most of your weight on one foot or the other instead of evenly on both feet. Doing so makes poses look less artificial and gives a slight slimming effect in most positions.

When sitting or reclining, roll one hip up slightly from the resting surface so that most of your weight is on the back of one thigh or the other instead of evenly on both thighs. This gives a slight slimming effect and makes the pose look less artificial.

Avoid having your arms hanging flat against your sides. Instead, bend your arms slightly, place your hands on your hips, or try other poses that involve alternate placements of the arms.

Keep your chin up to avoid chin wrinkles or double chins.
Posing Tips For Emphasizing Cleavage:

Lean forward.
Bring arms together at the waist.
Clasp hands together below the waist, keeping arms straight at the elbows.
Cross arms.
Posing Tips for Minimizing Cleavage:

Lean backward.
Slouch.
Keep arms apart.
Raise arms above shoulders or above head.

7 things every Actor/Singer/Dancer can learn from PerezHilton.com!

Posted on December 22nd, 2009 by admin

Who is Perez Hilton? Perez Hilton is the name of Mario Lavandeira’s hugely successful celebrity gossip blog (www.PerezHilton.com). Perez has made millions for Mario because it is read by millions everyday – it averages 260 million page views a month.

That is some success story. And something we can all learn lessons from.
perezhilton_celebrity-gossip_travolta2
So, here are the 7 things every actor/singer/dancer can learn from PerezHilton.com:

1. Find an idea you have passion for.
Perez blogged about celebrities “because it was something I was inherently curious about, fascinated with.” Make sure your project is something you’re passionate about. You’re going to be working on it for at least 2 years and you’ll need to stay enthusiastic both to work on the project and to work on promoting it long after its finished.

2. Find an idea there is an audience for.
Celebrity gossip pulls in a big crowd and Perez has capitalized on this. Your project should have audience appeal, whether it be for the quirky festival circuit followers or prepubescent girls. Try to avoid making a project about a deeply traumatic bus ride you once had unless it says something to someone else.

3. Be consistent.
Perez posts about 40 times a day, on average. That is a fearsome work rate but he does it because he loves his blog and he needs to keep working at it to keep it working. If you’re writing or planning your project you need to make sure that you’ve a work ethic just as strong. Be consistent, set goals and strive to meet them everyday.

4. Be unique.
Have a voice that stands out from the crowd. There is no point churning out the same projects as everyone else, be they genre blockbusters or cut and paste indie arthouse. Perez differentiated his blog from other gossip pages with personal touches such as writing messages on the photos. Your project too should project your personal voice loudly and clearly.

5. Do not be censored.
Perez gets in trouble for saying what he thinks. Every time he does it and a celebrity attacks him, his blog gets more popular. Stay strong and don’t let you’re creative vision waver. Make the project the way you want to make it.

6. Experiment with monetization.
Perez realized that he could monetize his blog, experimented with several different advertising formats and now gets paid up to $54,000 for a short campaign. As an artist you need to have a good idea about how your project is going to make its money; check out crowd sourcing, social media marketing and other self-distribution techniques.

7. Develop your career.
Perez started with a blog but has grown a media empire of TV shows, book deals and even clothing lines around his persona. Have a long term plan and remember to work towards. Develop friends and contacts in the industry, make yourself known and refer to your goals. Make sure you have an answer when someone asks you “what’s next?”

TAG Advice for Modeling… You’re It!

Tips To Becoming A Better Model

To become a model is not everyone’s cup of tea, this world is full of glamour and hype but to become a model it notvelvet-leaf very easy. Models have to go through a tough phase inorder to achieve success. Modelling is sometimes tedious and boring and this profession is not at all 9-5 schedule job, models have to keep themselves ready 24×7. Models have to take special care of their fitness and health and need to take proper balance diet to maintain them. This industry is very competitive, one has to be fully committed towards modeling and should put hard efforts and time to compete.

The first thing to that you need is a modeling portfolio with 10-15 photographs in different outfits and poses. Before making your portfolio, try to get idea from the portfolios of top models and do following the example. Make sure you get different looks and poses; there should be variety in your portfolio. To get best photographs for your portfolio hire a professional photographer.

Beside, you need a comp card (composite card, zed card, sed card). This card contains minimum of two pictures and the model’s basic stats like height, weight, three sizes (bust, waist, hips), shoe size, eye and hair color, nationality and contact information. Try to print on rigid card so that it would not tear out. Printing comp card could be expensive try to print your comp card by yourself.

Now the main thing is to approach an agency for work. Try finding for reputed and genuine modeling agency and visit them, don’t forget to book an appointment ahead of time. Carry important paper and some of your photographs during your visit. Ask what ever queries you have in your mind, be concerned if they promise you work right away. Take your time to think before signing any contract. Do not pay money up-front for classes or training. Don’t forget to keep copies of all the contracts.

Other important things that one should keep in mind to become a successful model are :
Always be on time, Punctuality is very important.
Always go prepared.
Always take your own make-up.
Get references, as many as you can.
Don’t be nervous.

This advice should help you to grow in your modeling career.

Be Smart About Marketing Yourself with Your Blog- Improvise!

5 Improvisational Acting Techniques That Will Make You a Better Blogger
by Nathania Johnson

Recently, Brian wrote about the connections between jazz improvisation and blogging. As an improvisational actor, I wanted to offer insight into 5 techniques used by improv actors and comedians that can help you improve your blogging.
blogging
Let Go of Your Inhibitions
Audiences respond to one of two triggers: The Unexpected and The Common Experience. Both of these triggers are best expressed when your guard is let down.
Here’s what I mean.
Admitting to the fact that you pick your nose on the way to work is going to get a laugh. Some will be laughing at you because they didn’t expect it (and they pick their noses in the privacy of their own bathroom) and others will laugh with you because they do the same thing but were keeping it quiet.
Everyday, people are playing to social norms and expectations. You stand out when you let go of those inhibitions and explore your creative freedom. Vulnerability and spontaneity can inform this freedom and help set you apart from the rest of the bloggers in your niche.

Value Emotional Integrity Over Audience Response
Sometimes, when I’m on stage, the audience is quiet. Painfully quiet. The material falls flat and I wish I could rewind and do something different. The other night I tried to be Michael Jackson, and it was a total dud. My husband later told me that I used a southern accent for that scene.
I went for the joke instead of maintaining the emotional integrity of the Michael Jackson character. In other words, I gave attributes to a character that didn’t fit – and therefore, the audience didn’t connect.
In the same way, blogging is part of an overall conversation marketing movement where transparency is not only valued but expected. Savvy audiences will see through you in a heartbeat if you try to be something or someone that you’re not.

Saying “Yes, And…”
There’s an improv exercise called “Yes, And.” The first player makes a statement and the second player begin their response with the words, “Yes, And.” For example:
Player A: “I got you a Slip and Slide for your 35th birthday!”
Now, this suggestion feels a bit awkward to the beginning improviser. So it would be tempting to pretend it’s a joke or otherwise deny the situation. But this exercise teaches improvisers to accept the statements made by their fellow players and respond with gems such as:
Player B: “Yes, and let’s go put string bikinis on our cellulite-infested bodies and go strut our stuff in front of the retirement center.”
Raise your hand if you want to see this scene! I know I do.
“Yes, And…” is all about accepting what others have to offer. Whether it’s another blogger or a commenting reader, consider what others are offering you and respond accordingly. Don’t discount something quickly because it’s something you’ve never encountered before (a perspective, a partnership, etc).

Be Specific
Just as with copywriting, specificity is improv gold. When doing a scene, if I say I’m at a restaurant, every single audience member could have a different image of where that scene takes place. One person might think fast food while another thinks fine dining.
But if I say “Thanks for meeting me at Pete’s Soda Fountain,” that says a lot. Suddenly, my audience can visualize that I’m sitting at an old-fashioned pharmacy counter from the 1950s.
As a blogger, you may think that specificity comes easy. But does it really? When you tell your audience to write a good headline, do you give them examples? When you tell them to network on Facebook, do you show them how? Being specific will absolutely take your blog to the next level.

Play from the Top of Your Intelligence
Being specific doesn’t mean dumbing down your material. One of the reasons that blogging and social media is a hit is because consumers are tired of traditional marketing that’s pushed in TV, radio, and print ads. Consumers aren’t nearly as gullible as advertisers hope they are.
Del Close, the late co-founder of the iO Theater in Chicago, taught his students to play from the top of their intelligence. This meant starting scenes in the “middle” instead of starting every scene off with “Hi, how are you? My name is Jane. What’s your name?”
It also means pushing yourself to find the good material. Improvisers know that they can get a quick laugh from a dirty joke or a curse word. But this is often at the expense of a scene or even an entire show. Good improv holds out for the best material.

Good blogging does the same.
