Co-Writer Sought for Screenplay in NYC!

Posted on February 1st, 2010 by admin

Co-Writer Sought for Screenplay in NYC!

I’ve been working in production in New York for over ten years and
have recently begun developing my own projects under my company
banner, Notable Features, alongside my role as Vox3 Films’ Head of
Production.
poetry
Last year I applied for the Sundance Creative Producing Grant and made
to the last round before getting nixed This year I will reapply with
this project. Specifically, I am hoping to bring on another
Writer/Co-Producer who can give a meaningful and credible voice to one
of the two main characters in the story, as well as be a creative and
logistical partner in fleshing out the role of Harlem, a central
location and in my view, also a key “character”.

Without such a partnership, the credibility and depth of this story
will certainly fall short.

Over the past year I have been working on a dramatic character piece
that will be shot on a shoestring budget in Manhattan. HARMONY
(working title) is the story Lena, a troubled young Russian emigrant
who goes adrift in New York City after the elderly woman she cares for
suddenly dies.

The film, inspired by the highly publicized case of a woman who
underwent a dissociative fugue in New York in 2009, should possess a
dreamlike quality, focusing on the details of New York as seen through
Lena’s eyes. She will bring the perspective of an outsider freed from
societal dictates. In her enchanted New York City, intimate and
unlikely relationships form out of this newfound liberation. She
eventually finds her way to Harlem and there befriends T.K., a single
father trying to make a living for his young son as an ambulette
driver. Lena eventually falls for T.K. after discovering his innate
talent as a spoken word poet. She helps T.K. prepare for a live
performance that is supposed to be broadcast. Soon after, she sees
the possibility of T.K. reuniting with his son’s mother and she
realizes that she has no place in his makeshift family.

I have a screenwriter on board (Ivan Weiss) and a Director (Tatia
Pilieva). I’ve known and worked with Tatia a number of times in the
past, and she, an immigrant from the Republic of Georgia, will bring a
personal voice to this project.

I would very much appreciate you forwarding this blog entry to anyone who
may be interested in meeting with me. I have a long treatment that I
can forward to anyone who is interested.

Thank you in advance for your help.

All best,

Jenny Schweitzer

Audition Strategies: an Actor’s Workshop from a Producer’s perspective

Join us in the widely popular Audition Workshop!

When Sean Young, donning a leather costume, mask, and a whip, stormed into the studio demanding an audition for the role of Catwoman in Batman Returns, director Tim Burton hid under his desk.
Case-in-point: Persistence vs Pestering

When asked to read for a role, Shelly Winters once slammed down her two Oscars and asked the casting director, “Ya still want me to audition?” She got the part.
Case-in-point: Confidence vs Cockiness

The night before his audition, Mel Gibson got a broken nose and disconnected jaw in a bar brawl. Director page1George Miller loved the look and cast him as Mad Max.
Case-in-point: Looking the Part vs Being Yourself

AUDITION STRATEGIES is a one-day, intensive workshop for actors who want to learn simple and effective techniques, facts, and tips that will get them the parts they want.

Who Should Attend: Aspiring actors who have talent, passion, discipline, and even agents, but hit a wall every time they audition, never able to pinpoint exactly what goes wrong.

Why This Class: This workshop is NOT an acting class. It is not conducted by an acting teacher, a coach, an agent or even a casting director. Instead, it is conducted by the casting DECIDER, aka the producer/director. He is the one who actually sees what mistakes actors make and knows the dos and don’ts of auditioning.

What You Learn: In this 1-day, intensive, hands-on workshop, actors will go through each step of the audition process and learn fast, simple and effective ways to build your portfolio, your confidence, and your chance to get the part. Participants will quickly become adept at handling real-world situations through lectures, Q&A’s, and demonstrations, providing them with the tips and tricks necessary to capture the audience- the Producer
