RACE, the new play written and directed by DAVID MAMET, will star JAMES SPADER, DAVID ALAN GRIER, KERRY WASHINGTON and RICHARD THOMAS.

RACE will make its world premiere at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre (located at 243 West 47th St.) beginning on Monday, November 16, 2009 with the official opening night on Sunday, December 6, 2009. Rehearsals are set to begin on Tuesday, October 20, 2009.

RACE will feature sets by Tony Award winner Santo Loquasto, lighting design by Brian Macdevitt and costumes by Tom Broecker.

RACE will be produced by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel & Steve Traxler, the award-winning producers of Speed-The-Plow, Glengarry Glen Ross as well as August: Osage County and Blithe Spirit.

RICHMOND SHEPARD has been involved with theatre and films for fifty years, as an actor, director, producer, Mime and writer. He built, owned and operated five small theatres in Los Angeles, starting what is now “Theatre Row” in Hollywood, where he produced over thirty shows, including the Los Angeles premiere of Ron Ribman’s “Cold Storage,” Elizabeth Swados’ “Runaways,” and Albert Innaurato’s “The Transfiguration of Benno Blimpie, for which he won a DramaLogue award for directing. He also won one for producing (”Entertaining Mr. Sloan”), and for acting (”Cold Storage”). He produced Eugene O’Neil’s “Long Days Journey Into Night,” Elmer Rice’s “Counsellor at Law,” Tom Stoppard’s “Travesties,” and many originals including two musicals which he commissioned and directed: “Tinseltown” and “Captain Crash Vs. The Zzorg Women- Chapters 5 & 6.” Each of these was recorded, and cast albums were released.

Arthur Przybyszewski owns a decrepit donut shop in the uptown neighborhood of Chicago. Franco Wicks, a black teenager who is his only employee, wants to change the shop for the better. This comedy-drama, set in the heart of one of Chicago’s most diverse communities, explores the challenges of embracing the past and the redemptive power of friendship.

If you are a playwright, or know a playwright, please note that there are still openings for one-act plays in the lineup at Where Eagles Dare’s studio theatre.

The deal is that the playwright/producer must produce the play (casting and rehearsing the actors, among many other tasks), including provision of a board operator (we can help you find one). Where Eagles Dare will provide the theatre, box-office services, and some promotion. THERE IS NO FEE. Tickets will be $15. Where Eagles Dare keeps the door.

Plays must be 45 – 60 minutes, on any subject. There are various dates and times available throughout December 2009 and January 2010. Each show will receive 3 slots in 1 week. Producers who succeed in this format are often invited back to produce under a door-deal arrangement.

We’re looking for experienced producers with a script ready to put on its feet and a wide base of potential audience. Production requirements must be kept to a minimum, as the amenities of the studio theatre are spartan. But Off-Off-Broadway, sometimes two boards and a passion are all it takes!

When Ian Antonio Gomes heard there was a casting call for the hit reality TV series “Intervention,” he was convinced he could get the job. The producers were seeking addicts with compelling personalities who would let cameras follow their journey through rehab. But there was one little problem — Gomes had already kicked his pill-popping habit.

The 25-year-old former hotel concierge faced a dilemma: He could either go back on the prescription drugs that once controlled him or pretend he was still hooked. A third option, which did not immediately spring to mind, was to pass up the opportunity. “I was going to put my story out there and eventually bend or manipulate the system,” says the Brooklyn extrovert, who has auditioned for dozens of shows such as “American Idol” and “Survivor.”…..
